2010 By-Laws

INDIANA JUNIOR SWINE CIRCUIT BY-LAWS

I. Organization
a. The at large representatives will serve as the official record keepers.
b. www.ijsc.org will act as the official site for advertising and promotion
c. The show dates for the season must be verified by the board members.
d. Points will be accumulated from all sanctioned shows, however overall awards will be based on points earned from the member’s top three pigs at the 50% plus 1 most successful shows
e. Indiana State Fair Ownership rules will be applied, ownership/possession May 15
i. A complete list of ear notches for all pigs a member plans to show for the show season must be turned in by May 15, 2010 to receive points for those pigs.  If a member shows a pig on the circuit and that pig’s ear notch was not turned in by May 15, 2010 then the member will NOT receive points for that pig.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
f. Pigs must be born after Dec. 1
g. Any grievances must be presented to an IJSC representative, within 24 hours of incident, in writing and accompanied by a $250 non-refundable fee
i. However, if grievance is approved fees will be refunded.

II. Advisory Board shall consist of the following:
a. IJSC Junior Board
i. Up to twelve members will be selected by a process of recommendation.
1. Two year rotation, end of second year may reapply
2. Two term limit
3. Cannot be a member of the IJSC Junior Board once they have passed the maximum age of membership
4. Board members can be removed at anytime due to failure to uphold duties of an IJSC Junior Board member.
a. In this situation, the Senior IJSC Board can appoint a replacement for the vacant position.
b. IJSC Senior Board
i. Nine at-large representatives and one Executive Director

c. All attending board members may vote at the meetings.

III. Sanctioned Shows

  1. Shows must follow the guidelines set forth by the IJSC for record keeping and general fairness to the exhibitors. A standardized entry form and placing document will be furnished by the IJSC for all sanctioned shows

i. All sanctioned shows must use the IJSC’s show template for keeping track of show results.
b. There will be a $150.00 fee to become a sanctioned show with the IJSC.
c. A mailing list must be turned over from each show to the IJSC Board to be used for advertising (list will be shared with each show upon request)
d. Each show must offer showmanship.
e. All results from the show must be turned into the delegated IJSC representative at the conclusion of the show.
f. Established shows must confirm/reserve their show date with the Executive Director of IJSC by November 1st for the following show season.
g. Shows shall be registered and paid as a sanctioned show and have the official show flyer in IJSC no later than March 31st of the current show season.
h. In order to be a sanctioned show all shows must follow the following guidelines
i. Mandatory attendance at the collaborative meeting
ii. Breeding Gilts & Barrows Count toward points/Market gilt show will not count towards points in the IJSC point recording
iii. Showmanship ages need to be according to NJSA ruling
1. 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-21 (as of Jan. 1)
2. Showmanship must be advertised
3. IJSC will have special notations of when during a show showmanship will be offered
iv. Age of pigs Dec. 1 & after, must accept December pigs
v. Purebred papers are required for ALL purebred barrows and gilts from respective breed association as well as meet all breed characteristics:

vi. Purebred Papers will not be required until May 15 however ALL breed characteristics will be required FOR ALL IJSC Sanctioned shows. After May 15th, must have pedigree papers.
vii. Place top 5 pigs overall in the barrow and gilt show.

viii. Breeding Gilts must be shown by age/Cross gilts must be shown by weight and without a weight limit.
1. Points will be given accordingly
ix. Mandatory classes must be offered for the following breeds for the 2010 season regardless of number that participate in each sanctioned show – Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Hereford, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted, Tamworth, Yorkshire, and Crossbred. Both barrow and gilt classes must be offered and Champion and Reserve Champion must be chosen by the judge.

  1. Any show that does not meet the sanctioned show guidelines set forth by IJSC will not be on the circuit the following year.
  1. A judge can only judge 1 show on the circuit per year.

IV. Membership
a. A $30 membership fee will be assessed to become a member of the IJSC.
1. Membership benefits: T-Shirt and eligibility for points awards
b. Members must be signed up and paid before a show starts. Points will not accumulate before you become a member.
c. Members must be ages 5-21 as of January 1 of the current show season
d. Must be an Indiana resident, or Indiana 4-H member or Indiana FFA member to participate

V. Points
Points will be kept as follows: (member can accumulate points from all shows, however awards will be based on the grand total points from member’s top three pigs, showmanship and skill-a-thon from the 50% plus 1 of all IJSC sanctioned shows offered during the 2010 season.)
a. The top five placings in each class:
i. 1st = 10 points
ii. 2nd = 9 points
iii. 3rd = 8 points
iv. 4th = 7 points
v. 5th = 6 points
vi. 6th & below 1 points each

b. Breed winners:
i. Champions = 10 points + (1 point x number in division with a cap of 20 points)
ii. Reserves = 5 points + (1 point x number in division with a cap of 20 points)

c. Overall winners:
i. Grand = 50 points
ii. Reserve Grand = 40 points
iii. Third = 30 points
iv. Fourth = 20 points
v. Fifth = 10 points

d. Showmanship Classes:
i. 1st = 15 points + (1 point x number in division with a cap of 10)
ii. 2nd =14 points (1 point x number in division with a cap of 8)
iii. 3rd = 13 points
iv. 4th = 12 points
v. 5th = 11 points
vi. All other participants will receive 1 point

e. Skill-a-Thon:
i. 1st = 15 points (1 point x number in division with a cap of 10)
ii. 2nd = 14 points (1 point x number in division with a cap of 8)
iii. 3rd = 13 points
iv. 4th = 12 points
v. 5th = 11 points
vi. All other participants will receive 1 point

**f. Members are required to show (exhibit and showmanship) their own pigs to earn points.  Exception only if exhibitor has more than one animal in a class.

Substitute showman must be 5-21 years of age.

Members must show their pigs alone (1 pig, 1 showman) to receive points.

Failure to follow these rules will result in loss of points for that show on that day.

Now clarified:
For exhibit and showmanship classes, members are required to show their own pigs, to earn points; however if an exhibitor has more than one animal in a given class, the member will show one animal and have a substitute showman (5-21 yrs old) show another. Also, no additional showman or drivers on that 1 pig. Failure to do so, will result in loss of points for that pig for that show on that day.

g.  All members will be given a member number.

VI. Awards
a. Will be given out at the Indiana State Fair
b. Age Divisions
i. Four divisions based on age Jan. 1 of show year
1. Novice 5-8
2. Junior 9-12
3. Intermediate 13-16
4. Senior 17-21
c. Categories:
i. Showmanship – In each age division
ii. Skill-a-Thon – In each age division
iii. Overall Exhibitor
iv. Barrows & Gilts by breed, awarded to the exhibitor of the pigs
1. The following breeds will be awarded for the 2010 show season: Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Hereford, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted, Tamworth, Yorkshire, and Crossbred.
4. Only the points from an exhibitor’s top three placing pigs at a show and the 50% plus 1 most successful point shows will count toward an individual’s overall point totals.
